The Wine Estate
Quinta do Pessegueiro in Portugal
Integrated in the purest landscape of the Douro Valley wine region, in Ervedosa do Douro, in the Cima Corgo sub-region, our estate enjoys an exceptional location. Two hours drive from Oporto, the property is located halfway up the hillside, in a group of high hills. The partly paved road that leads to it sets the tone.
Further down, the river, wide and calm, flows between its two banks sculpted to infinity by a multitude of superimposed terraces, most of them planted with vines. As if a god who fell in love with the place, as a celestial hairdresser, painted this landscape every day in the direction of the water's flow. In this valley where the mark of the man is omnipresent, this last, in the hottest hours of the day, deserts the places, leaving place to the only silence and the breath of the wind.
Once through the large gate, a large building lined with olive trees, eucalyptus, flowering laurels, cypresses and succulents, invites you to travel.
Presentation of work processes
In order to create wines with a unique character, we make the most of the magnificent terroir of the Upper Douro and maintain the plurality of its grape varieties, some of which are endemic to this valley. The wines are made with ancestral viticultural methods and high-tech equipment with a 100% gravity cellar, which saves the wine from the use of pumps during the vinification process.
All our production is under the experienced supervision of Joào Nicolau de Almeida and a multidisciplinary team of involved professionals.
Marc Monrose, general manager of Quinta do Pessegueiro, and Joao Nicolau de Almeida, the estate's oenologist and his team of enthusiasts, cultivate a unique know-how. Their philosophy values the remarkable terroir of the Alto Douro while maintaining a plurality of grape varieties to create wines with unique characters.
Professionalism, extreme attention and humility give us today exceptional wines and augur an even more promising future.
Vineyards & Terroirs
Day after day, we learn about the geological and climatic particularities of our plots and the evolution of our grape varieties.
This approach, which places the understanding of our terroir and the management of the vineyard above all else, allows nature to do its work in peace, over time.
The wines produced at Quinta do Pessegueiro will seduce you first of all by their undeniably superior quality. All the grape varieties of the estate are autochthonous and the vines are the most adapted to the geology and the climate, so particular, of the region. Far from the single-mindedness and dominant tastes that have spread throughout the wine regions of the world, our vine varieties produce wines that express the extraordinary character of the Douro.
In addition to a Port wine, white and red, of great quality, declined in LBV and Vintage, the Quinta produces red and white wines.
